Elisabet Stener-Victorin, PhD, Associate Professor
Dr. Stener-Victorin is a senior lecturer and researcher at Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden. She has recently received a renewal of the Longjiang Scholar, Chair Professorship at Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine, China.
She works with western medical acupuncture research since beginning of 1990 with main focus to investigate the effect of electro-acupuncture (EA) in reproductive medicine both in clinical and experimental studies. This ended up in a PhD at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology 2000. After her PhD she went to Japan for postdoctorial research in collaboration with Professor Mieko Kurosawa. From 2005 she has been working full time as a researcher with grants from the Swedish Research Council at the Department of Physiology at the Institution of Neuroscience and Physiology at Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg and in January 2015 she move with her group to the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm.
Her research focuses on the pathophysiology of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), the most common endocrine and metabolic disorder among women, and the effect and mechanisms of acupuncture and exercise on PCOS related symptoms.
She is a well-known lecturer at international conferences and at acupuncture courses in Europe, US, South America, China, Australia and New Zealand. She has published more than 115 peer-reviewed articles and is in the Editorial Board of Human Reproduction, Acupuncture in Medicine and in Journal of Physiology. Since 2012 she is member in the board of Society for Acupuncture Research (SAR).
