The Pictures and Video of the International Symposium on Research in Acupuncture

In many European countries, Acupuncture is among the most used Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) therapies. It is increasingly provided for several diseases in conventional healthcare, both in private and public structures, and in some cases it is reimbursed by the publichealth service. This is the result of a rigorous process of evaluation of the available scientific studies that has established the efficacy and security of Acupuncture treatments. However, though randomized controlled clinical trials in acupuncture are numerically and qualitatively higher, there are methodological problems that need to be addressed for pursuing research activities aimed at the acquisition of additional evidence on the efficacy of Acupuncture, as well as on its integration of acupuncture into the healthcare systems.

In this context, the Association of Medical Acupuncturists of Bologna (A.M.A.B.) - Italy and the Istituto Superiore di Sanità has organized the International Symposium on Research in Acupuncture which was held on October 3, 2015 in Bologna, Italy.

Purpose of the Symposium was to bring together international recognized authorities in the field of clinical research in Acupuncture, with the final aim of providing practical and authoritative answers to the most controversial aspects and issues concerning the methodology of research in Acupuncture and its integration within the health systems. The Symposium, whose program was designed to offer plenary sessions and panel discussions with active participation of the audience, focused on the following topics, and related panel Sessions:

1. Action mechanisms of Acupuncture and current trends in Acupuncture research
2. Methodology of research and EBM in Acupuncture
3. Acupuncture and Placebo
4. Integration of Acupuncture into the healthcare systems: Regulation, Education and Cost-effectiveness

The Symposium was a success and was attended by 213 people from 14 countries.

The day was interesting, intense and characterized by an intensive exchange of views between the audience and the speakers at the end of each panel of relations: on the one hand the speakers, some of the world's leading experts in acupuncture research, the other from interested doctors, researchers and practitioners.

The organizational effort of AMAB was honored by the enthusiasm and expertise of the speakers and participants, who have made this day a unique and unforgettable: for research, for acupuncture and for all those who participated.

The Symposium received the patronage of the Italian Ministry of Health, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Regione Emilia-Romagna.
